St. Catherine of Alexandria
d. 305
Patron of philosophers, students, young women
Saint Catherine of Alexandria (died about 305) was one of the most popular saints of the Middle Ages, though almost nothing about her life can be confirmed by historians. Her story, as it has been handed down, is of a brilliant young noblewoman of Alexandria in Egypt, a great center of learning, who became a Christian and refused to worship the gods of the emperor.
