St. Jude Thaddeus
d. 65
Patron of impossible causes, desperate situations, hospitals
Saint Jude Thaddeus, called Thaddaeus in the Gospel of Matthew and Jude of James in the writings of Luke, was one of the Twelve Apostles chosen by Christ. He is identified in tradition as a kinsman of the Lord, brother of Saint James the Less, and author of the brief but powerful epistle that bears his name in the New Testament canon. At the Last Supper it was Jude who asked the Lord, "Master, what has happened that you will reveal yourself to us and not to the world?" (John 14:22).
