St. Charles Borromeo
1538 – 1584
Patron of catechists, seminarians, bishops
Saint Charles Borromeo (1538–1584) was born into a powerful Italian family and became a cardinal at just 21, when his uncle was elected Pope Pius IV. He could easily have lived as a wealthy Renaissance prince of the Church. Instead, the death of his older brother and a deep conversion turned him toward a life of prayer, penance and hard work.
