St. Albert the Great
d. 1280
Patron of scientists, students, philosophers
Saint Albert the Great (about 1200–1280) was a German Dominican friar who seemed to know about everything. He wrote on theology and philosophy, but also on astronomy, chemistry, botany, zoology, minerals and geography, often based on his own careful observation. His contemporaries called him "the Great" while he was still alive.
