Sts. Philip and James, Apostles
Patron of Uruguay, hatters, pastry chefs, pharmacists, fullers
Saint Philip, called from Bethsaida by the Lord himself ('Follow me'), is the apostle who brought Nathanael to Jesus and at the Last Supper asked, 'Lord, show us the Father, and it will be enough for us.' Saint James, son of Alphaeus, called 'the Less' to distinguish him from the elder James, is by ancient tradition the author of the Catholic epistle that bears his name and the first bishop of Jerusalem, where he was killed in 62 by being thrown from the pinnacle of the temple and beaten with a fuller's club. The Roman Basilica of the Twelve Apostles guards relics of both, which is why their feast is kept together.
