St. Thomas the Apostle
Patron of doubters, India, Pakistan, architects, construction workers
Saint Thomas, called Didymus, 'the Twin,' is the apostle who refused to believe the resurrection on the word of the others and who, when the risen Lord stood before him a week later and offered his wounds, made the highest confession of faith in the New Testament: 'My Lord and my God.' From earliest times he is honored as the apostle of India, where his preaching converted the Malabar coast and where the ancient community of the Thomas Christians still keeps the liturgy that bears his name. He was martyred near Mylapore (Madras) around 72 by lances, the instrument of his death.
