St. Polycarp
d. 155
Saint Polycarp (about 69–155) was bishop of Smyrna, in what is now Turkey, and one of the most important links between the apostles and the early Church. According to St. Irenaeus, who knew him as a boy, Polycarp had been taught by the apostle John himself and had spoken with others who had seen the Lord.
