St. Peter Damian
1007 – 1072
Saint Peter Damian (1007–1072) was born in Ravenna, Italy, the youngest of a large and poor family. Orphaned as a small child, he was put to work tending pigs by a brother who treated him harshly. Another brother, a priest named Damian, took him in and paid for his education, and Peter added his brother's name to his own in gratitude.
