The Seven Holy Founders of the Servite Order
d. 1310
The Seven Holy Founders were seven well-to-do men of Florence, Italy, members of a lay confraternity devoted to the Virgin Mary, in the thirteenth century. Florence was a rich, busy city torn by political factions. Around 1233, these seven friends decided to leave their businesses and families' comfort behind to live together in prayer and penance.
