St. Thomas Becket
1120 – 1170
Patron of clergy
Saint Thomas Becket (about 1120–1170) was the son of a London merchant. Clever and ambitious, he rose quickly in the service of the Archbishop of Canterbury and then of the young King Henry II, who made him Chancellor of England. Thomas lived lavishly and was Henry's close friend and loyal servant.
