St. John the Apostle
d. 100
Patron of friendship, writers, theologians
Saint John was a Galilean fisherman, the son of Zebedee and the brother of St. James. Jesus called the two brothers from their nets, and nicknamed them "Sons of Thunder" for their fiery tempers. With Peter and James, John was one of the three apostles closest to Jesus: he was there at the Transfiguration and in the Garden of Gethsemane.
