Transfiguration of the Lord
On a high mountain — traditionally Tabor — Jesus took with him Peter, James and John and 'was transfigured before them: his face shone like the sun and his clothes became dazzling white.' Moses and Elijah, the Law and the Prophets, conversed with him about his coming exodus at Jerusalem, and the voice of the Father proclaimed from the cloud, 'This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him.' The feast, kept since the Christian East of the fourth century, gives the Church a glimpse of the glory of the risen Christ in the midst of his ministry — a strength to the disciples for the scandal of the Cross they were about to face.
