St. Mark the Evangelist
Patron of Venice, Egypt, notaries, lawyers
Saint Mark the Evangelist, traditionally identified with the John Mark of the Acts of the Apostles and the cousin of Saint Barnabas, was a Jewish Christian of Jerusalem whose mother Mary opened her home to the first community of disciples (Acts 12:12). He accompanied Paul and Barnabas on the first missionary journey, parted from them at Perga, and was later reconciled to Paul, who in his last imprisonment asked Timothy to bring Mark to him because he was "useful to me for ministry" (2 Timothy 4:11).
